RSG Energy Plantations Pvt Ltd ,set up as a part of the backward integration process of the groupís businesses, primarily focuses on plantation and trading of Biomass to support Biomass based power projects (both internal & external).
Energy plantation means to grow a select species of trees and shrubs which are harvestable in a comparably shorter time and grown specifically for fuel, to feed the biomass units. Apart from helping produce power, the plants also convert barren land into green.
India is the biggest fuel wood producing country in the world, but the per capita fuel wood production is very low. As governments are emphasizing the need for alternate clean energy production, the demand for energy plantations has become paramount. Data collected from Forest Department reveals that annual woody biomass available is in the range 11.9 to 21 t/ha/yr
The attractive features of energy plantations are:a. heat content of wood is similar to that of Indian coal, b. wood is low in sulphur and not likely to pollute the atmosphere, c. ash from burnt wood is a valuable fertiliser, d. utilisation of erosion prone land for raising these plantations helps to reduce wind and water erosion, thereby minimising hazards from floods, siltation, and loss of nitrogen and minerals from soil and e. help in rural employment generation - it is estimated that a hectare of energy plantation is estimated to provide employment for at least seven persons regularly.
RSG Energy Plantations plans at growing Regenerative Energy Forests, with a process that is systemic & transparent. The multi level activities are to:
- Identify, qualify & purchase land suitable for the project.
- Create high density, short turnaround forests
- Generate regular & consistent production of feedstock
- Develop state-of-the-art plantation management methods
- Manage efficient logistics
With these sustainably managed plantations, we will negotiate long term supply arrangements and build RSG Energy Plantations into an independent economic entity.
